Audi Paves the Way for New Adventures with the Q6 e-tron Offroad Concept

Audi has unveiled an eye-catching new prototype at the World Alpine Skiing Cup in Kitzbühel, Austria. The Audi Q6 e-tron Offroad Concept, equipped with dual electric motors delivering a combined 380 kW of power, showcases remarkable climbing capabilities, tackling inclines of up to 100% with its newly designed portal axles.
Redefining Electric Off-Roading
Staying true to its motto, “Vorsprung durch Technik”, Audi has set a new benchmark for its electric models with the Q6 e-tron Offroad Concept.
Built upon the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, this concept is derived from the upcoming Audi Q6 e-tron, the first production model on this platform. The Q6 series has already gained recognition for its exceptional range, efficiency, and charging performance. Now, Audi is hinting at an off-road-ready variant, offering increased ground clearance of 160 mm (6.3 inches) and an extended track width of 250 mm (9.8 inches)—enhancing both its rugged stance and off-road capabilities.
A New Take on quattro
The Q6 e-tron Offroad Concept represents a reimagined version of Audi’s legendary quattro system, maximizing the potential of the brand’s electric vehicle technology.
While traditional portal axles typically enhance wheel torque by 20-30%, Audi’s innovative design boosts this to 50%. Although the top speed is electronically limited to 175 km/h (109 mph)—well-suited for off-road adventures—this groundbreaking system allows the vehicle to conquer inclines up to 45 degrees with ease.
Pushing the Limits of Innovation
Audi approached the Q6 e-tron Offroad Concept with a bold question: How can we create an emotionally engaging electric off-roader? The result is an advanced four-portal axle system, fully integrated into the hub assemblies of both the front and rear axles. This required modifications to the suspension layout, ultimately increasing total wheel torque to 13,400 Nm (9,882 lb-ft) for a 4,400 Nm (3,245 lb-ft) boost over conventional designs. The outcome? A true embodiment of Vorsprung durch Technik, capable of excelling both on and off the road.
The Audi Q6 e-tron Offroad Concept will make its public debut on February 1st at the F.A.T. Ice Race in Zell Am See, Austria. Enthusiasts can also follow the action via @Audi Sport’s social media channels.
