Volvo Cars has officially unveiled the EX60, a premium fully electric SUV designed to redefine standards in the D-SUV segment. Boasting a class-leading range of up to 810 km, ultra-fast charging capabilities, and the world’s first “Multi-Adaptive Safety Belt,” the EX60 marks a new technological era for the Swedish automaker.
The Volvo EX60 is not just a new model; it is the first vehicle built on Volvo’s next-generation SPA3 architecture. By integrating revolutionary production techniques like mega casting and a cell-to-body battery design, Volvo has managed to reduce vehicle weight while significantly increasing energy efficiency and structural rigidity.
The EX60 offers three distinct powertrain options to suit various needs, with the flagship version setting a new benchmark for long-distance electric travel:
Charging is equally impressive. Utilizing 400 kW turbo charging, the EX60 can add 340 km of range in just 10 minutes—making a charging stop nearly as quick as a traditional coffee break.
Described as Volvo’s most intelligent car to date, the EX60 features the HuginCore central computing system. This “supercomputer on wheels” is capable of 254 trillion operations per second, coordinating everything from infotainment to active safety.
True to Volvo’s heritage, the EX60 introduces a world-first safety innovation: the Multi-Adaptive Safety Belt. Unlike traditional belts, this system uses real-time data from interior and exterior sensors to adjust the belt’s tension based on the occupant’s height, weight, and the specific dynamics of a crash, significantly reducing the risk of injury.
Production of the EX60 is set to begin this spring at Volvo’s Torslanda plant in Gothenburg, Sweden. Thanks to the new production methods, the EX60 achieves the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo to date, matching the environmental impact of the much smaller EX30.
