Hyundai Secures the Top Spot in Global Safety Ratings
Hyundai Motor Group has reaffirmed its global leadership in automotive safety by winning a total of 21 TSP and TSP+ awards in the 2025 IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) evaluations. For the second consecutive year, the Group achieved the highest success among all automotive manufacturers. Hyundai led individual automakers with 10 awards, while its luxury brand Genesis secured 6. Furthermore, the all-electric flagship Hyundai IONIQ 9 demonstrated peak safety performance, earning the highest accolades from the IIHS.
Hyundai Motor Group has once again solidified its position at the forefront of automotive safety by securing 21 TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) and TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) awards in the 2026 IIHS evaluations. This result marks the second year in a row that Hyundai Motor Group has outpaced all other automotive groups in total safety honors.
Out of the 21 award-winning models, 18 achieved the 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK+ title, the Institute’s highest possible rating. This represents a significant increase from the 12 TSP+ awards won in 2024, proving the Group’s ability to successfully adapt to safety criteria that become more stringent every year.
A standout performer was the Hyundai IONIQ 9, the brand’s new flagship, which earned the highest ratings in all IIHS crashworthiness and crash prevention tests. These results clearly demonstrate Hyundai Motor Group’s continuous investment in advanced safety technologies and its determination to meet the industry’s toughest testing standards.
E-GMP: A Foundation for Safety
These results also highlight the proven safety infrastructure of the E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), which serves as the foundation for Hyundai’s electric vehicles. E-GMP-based models, including the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, GV60, and the 2026 IONIQ 9, all earned the TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating under the even stricter 2025 criteria. This success reflects the power of a platform-based approach in passenger protection, structural durability, and advanced safety technologies.
Stricter IIHS Testing Criteria for 2025
As of 2025, the IIHS further raised the bar for its testing standards, with a particular focus on rear-seat passenger safety. The updated moderate overlap front crash test now utilizes new rear-seat dummies—representing children or smaller adults—to more comprehensively assess real-life crash risks. Hyundai Motor Group models demonstrated consistent and robust performance in these new, more challenging evaluations, proving the Group’s proactive and continuous improvement-oriented approach to safety engineering.
