The all-electric hypercar U9 Xtreme from BYD’s luxury brand, YANGWANG, which holds the title of the world’s fastest car, set a new lap record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, completing the run in 6 minutes, 59.157 seconds.

BYD, the world’s leading New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, continues to push the boundaries of the automotive world with its advanced technology and power of innovation. Following its world speed record of achieved at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP) track in September 2025, BYD’s luxury brand YANGWANG‘s electric hypercar, the U9 Xtreme, has now set a new lap record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit with a time of 6 minutes, 59.157 seconds.

The U9 Xtreme became the first vehicle in the “Electric Super Sports Cars” category to dip below the seven-minute mark, improving the previous record by more than 5 seconds.

The brand’s engineering team conducted extensive testing on the Nordschleife track since July 2024. The detailed data obtained from these tests directly contributed to the vehicle’s development process.

Stella Li: “We Are Pushing the Boundaries of Technology”

Stella Li, Vice President of BYD, commented on the record broken at the Nürburgring: “We are pushing the boundaries of technology and working to see what can be achieved with technology. The Nürburgring is an iconic and challenging track for both cars and drivers. It is extremely meaningful for us that our engineers pursued their dreams here. I wholeheartedly congratulate the entire team for this great achievement. The limited-edition U9 Xtreme has demonstrated that it can deliver superior performance not only on straight roads but also on the most challenging, winding tracks, and possesses the dynamic structure required to break records.”

German Driver Moritz Kranz: “This Lap Time is a Testament to BYD and YANGWANG’s Superior Engineering”

Experienced German driver Moritz Kranz, who has completed approximately 10,000 laps on the demanding Nordschleife circuit during his GT racing career, was behind the wheel for the record lap. Regarding the record attempt, Kranz stated, “The Nürburgring Nordschleife is the most challenging circuit in the world, and this lap time is a demonstration of BYD and YANGWANG’s engineering prowess. This record lap time would not have been possible without the intensive effort they put into balancing a high-powered electric vehicle platform with the demanding requirements of chassis tuning.”

1200V Ultra-High Voltage Platform and Over Power

The model, initially known as the U9 Track/Special Edition and named YANGWANG U9 Xtreme (U9X) in its production version, is based on the technical foundation of the U9 currently on sale in China but raises the performance bar with a series of critical innovations.

Built upon the world’s first mass-produced full-domain ultra-high voltage platform, the U9 Xtreme is equipped with four high-performance electric motors, each capable of reaching rpm. The vehicle generates a total power of over and sets new global standards for performance with a power-to-weight ratio of per ton.

Developed on the existing e4 Platform and DiSus-X intelligent body control system also used in the YANGWANG U9 model, the U9 Xtreme innovatively employs “body attitude control” technology for track use, combining maximum speed with lap time performance in the same vehicle.

To complete the classic Nürburgring track, known for its steep gradients and challenging corners, the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme was equipped with a completely redesigned cooling system, a new titanium-alloy carbon-ceramic braking system, and GitiSport e·GTR2 PRO semi-slick tires developed in partnership with Giti. These enhancements allowed the vehicle to excel not only in its speed record but also in its Nürburgring lap record attempt.

The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme is offered to customers as a limited-edition vehicle, with production not exceeding 30 units. Its name is derived from the English word “Extreme,” embodying the meanings of “limit” and “ultimate,” while the letter “X” symbolizes the unknown and exploration. These characteristics align perfectly with the YANGWANG philosophy, inspired by the excitement born from exploration and innovation.
