GEN3 EVO Race Car Combines Power and Efficiency

The GEN3 Evo race car, faster, lighter, and more efficient than ever, represents a vision for sustainable motorsport. This vehicle is truly a performance laboratory where every kilowatt is crucial. The chassis is ultra-light and sturdy; the GEN3 EVO is developed based on the Spark Racing Technology GEN3 chassis and features a carbon fiber monocoque body that meets the highest FIA safety requirements. Furthermore, with a minimum weight of $\text{859 kg}$ including the driver, it ensures agility and high energy efficiency, offering dynamics close to internal combustion engine vehicles in a fully electric structure.

The GEN3 Evo race car provides a breathtaking acceleration experience. With its sleek body, the car houses an electric powertrain that delivers up to 350 kW 470 HPof power, achieving a remarkable acceleration: 0-100 km/h in just 1.86 seconds. The vehicle’s maximum speed is approximately 320 km/h, figures that make the GEN3 Evo the fastest electric single-seater to compete in an FIA championship.

One of the most significant innovations in the GEN3 generation is the use of two electric motors for record-level energy recovery. Under normal conditions, the rear electric motor provides propulsion, while the front motor is dedicated to energy regeneration. In “Attack Mode,” both motors work together, transforming the car into an all-wheel-drive vehicle. The system can recover up to 600 kW of energy during braking, allowing approximately 50% of the energy consumed during the e-Prix to be reused. The energy is stored in a battery with a capacity of approximately 47 kWh, developed to offer immediate power, thermal stability, and durability.

The Single-Seater Developed at Stellantis Motorsport Headquarters

The single-seater race car was developed at the Stellantis Motorsport headquarters in Satory, under the management of Jean Marc Finot. This level of expertise covers all powertrain systems outside the chassis and body: high-performance electric motors 350 kW$ in race mode), in-house developed inverters and power control software, dual-motor energy recovery systems (front and rear), and sophisticated thermal and energy management at the heart of race performance. Knowledge gained from Formula E is directly transferred to mass-produced electric transportation projects: optimization of battery management systems, inverter efficiency, braking energy recovery, and software strategies for motor control.

Jean Marc Finot, Director of Stellantis Motorsport, stated: “We are doing much more than just designing a single-seater: we are reviving the Citroën passion in one of the world’s most visionary championships. Dozens of engineers and technicians, with nearly eleven years of experience in Formula E, bring their high standards, racing expertise, and enthusiasm for the brand every day. This expertise gained over the seasons allows us today to achieve the necessary balance between energy management, cutting-edge efficiency technology, and reliability, which remains a fundamental element.”

Design Comes to Life with a Tricolor Livery

The French manufacturer’s new Formula E color scheme sends a clear message at first glance: boldness, energy, and identity. Developed by the Citroën design center, the car features a dynamic color transition that visually reflects the sensation of acceleration. Red and blue are separated by two white stripes that mirror the Citroën logo embossed on the body. The overall effect is powerful and highly striking.

The bright red color at the front brings brilliance to the single-seater’s nose. This color reflects passion, sportiness, and the Citroën tradition, symbolizing a brand that never ceases to create excitement on the road and the racetrack. Following this, a millimeter-precise color gradient, treated with the precision of a jeweler, adorns the body. The red extends and retracts with a technical movement. The message is clear, controlled, and contemporary: performance meets elegance.

Immaculate white stripes and electric blue dominate, forming the tricolor composition that Citroën proudly presents at the heart of the Formula E championship. Three colors, three promises: passion, technology, pride. It represents an open tribute to France, its know-how, and its spirit of innovation. Both assertive and elegant, this livery unites the colors of a country, the pride of a manufacturer, and the elegance of a vision.

Exceptional Drivers, Experienced Team Leader

Two talented drivers with established Formula E experience will carry the brand’s flag in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Jean-Éric Vergne, the 35-year-old French driver, has proven himself a motorsport cornerstone. He made his mark in Formula E, becoming the first driver to win two consecutive championships. His versatility extends to endurance racing, experience, and performance on race tracks in all categories.

Nick Cassidy, the 31-year-old New Zealander, is one of the most successful talents of his generation in motorsport. After success in karting and single-seaters, he shone in Japan by winning the “Japanese Triple Crown” (Super Formula, Super GT, and Formula 3). He transitioned to Formula E in 2020, where he proved himself a serious championship contender by achieving victories and podium finishes. He joins the Citroën Racing team after two highly successful seasons.

Cyril Blais Appointed as Team Leader

Cyril Blais is promoted to the top of the organization to achieve the team’s goals in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, blending his deep experience and technical expertise in Formula E with strong leadership skills. Cyril Blais started as a race engineer for renowned drivers like Lucas di Grassi and Maximilian Günther in Formula E. Before taking his current role as Team Leader at Maserati, he gradually ascended to the positions of Chief Engineer and Deputy Team Principal.

Known for his collaborative approach and ability to bring talent together, Cyril Blais focuses on creating an optimal working environment and collective leadership. With his strategic vision, he aims to maximize the team’s performance on the track by focusing heavily on advanced technology, energy management, and the use of simulators.

A New Motorsport Challenge for Citroën

The Citroën brand has been experiencing extraordinary momentum in recent years. After renewing its entire product range within two years, returning to motorsport is another step taken to shape the brand’s identity, bring people together, and express its values and aspirations. Participation in Formula E will truly advance Citroën‘s image. Motorsport is at the heart of automotive passion. It shows customers the brand’s determination to develop products of high standards, which are transferred from the racing world to consumer models. For Citroën, the goal is clear: to excite enthusiasts and maintain the human values and high standards that constitute the brand’s DNA.

Formula E is more than just a championship: it is a social responsibility model. It represents a sustainable vision for motorsport, aligned with Citroën’s commitments. Electrification, a cornerstone of the brand’s strategy and the key to the future energy transition and transport, finds its natural path here. Competition, courage, and responsibility converge to support a single engine for progress: the desire to advance society for the benefit of many people. Beyond sporting performance, Formula E stands out for its tangible commitment to sustainable development. As the first global championship to receive ISO 20121 certification for responsible event management, the racing series has been working towards a net zero carbon footprint target since its inception.

A Strong and International Lever to Reach a New Audience

The international dimension of this championship, which will feature 18 races in 12 countries, is also strong. By participating in Formula E, Citroën will strengthen its international reputation and boost its power, especially in the markets where it wants to increase visibility. Formula E provides the brand with a highly effective platform to enhance its image and convey its values, allowing it to reach an audience it would not reach elsewhere. Citroën is a brand close to people, forging bonds, and it will continue to connect with them through the highly attractive race format of city races held in or near major city centers. Furthermore, Citroën is a popular brand dedicated to making electric mobility (Ami, ë-C3, etc.) accessible to even wider audiences. The shared goal of Formula E, with its city center races, is to bring motorsport closer to the public, make events accessible, and forge a genuine connection with fans.

Citroën is Fueled by 60 Years of Racing Experience

Citroën returns to motorsport, which has shaped its history and legend with successes in Rally-Raid (5 championships), WRC (8 championships), and WTCC (3 championships). Citroën has won championships in every category it has entered. With the desire to discover new races and the same winning ambition, Citroën approaches the Formula E Championship with high standards and a passion that motivates its teams and fans. Adventure and motorsport racing are part of the Citroën culture and heritage. For 90 years, Citroën has supported participants in the wildest challenges (from long-distance records with Rosalie to the Croisière Verte with the Ami), and for 60 years, it has officially been part of the racing world.
