Hyundai Unveils ‘MobED’, a Production-Ready Autonomous Mobility Robot Platform
Hyundai Motor Group introduced MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid), the first production-ready mobility robot platform developed by the Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB, at the International Robot Exhibition 2025 (iREX 2025) in Tokyo, Japan.
First shown as a concept at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022, MobED has been made fully autonomous with AI and is now production-ready. It is being exhibited at iREX 2025, which runs from December 3–6. Introduction videos about MobED are also available on the Group’s official YouTube channel.
The Head of the Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB commented: “MobED is more than a simple mobility platform; it offers a next-generation solution adaptable to different industries and daily life. MobED will set new standards in the global robotics market and accelerate the future where humans and robots coexist.”
What Are MobED’s Key Features?

MobED introduces an innovative approach to robotic functionality defined by three core elements: Adaptive Mobility, Intuitive Autonomy, and Unlimited Journey.
Adaptive Mobility: Movement Redefined by Advanced Technology
MobED redefines mobile robotics by offering precise posture control and seamless ground conformity thanks to its advanced mechanism. These features are powered by the Group’s automotive engineering expertise, ensuring superior maneuverability on different surfaces:
-
Superior Control Mechanism: Dynamically adjusts posture and height on inclined or uneven surfaces to actively balance the platform.
-
Seamless Ground Transitions: Smoothly adapts to different environments, from tight indoor passages to challenging outdoor conditions.
-
Automotive-Grade Engineering: Scalably transfers laboratory-level precision to real-world field conditions.
Thanks to its adaptive mobility, MobED eliminates the need for environment-specific robot design.
Intuitive Autonomy: Making Robotic Technology Accessible to Everyone
MobED simplifies autonomous navigation, ensuring ease of use without requiring technical expertise:
-
Accessible Control Interface: Features a large touchscreen controller and intuitive 3D UI/UX design.
-
Safe Navigation: AI-based sensors combining LiDAR and cameras for obstacle detection and avoidance.
-
Reliable Autonomy: Predictable, safe, and precise movement algorithms, even in crowded and narrow spaces.
Unlimited Journey: Versatile Use Scenarios
Designed as a modular platform, MobED can be adapted for a wide range of applications, from logistics to video production:
-
Customizable Modular Structure: Universal mounting rails and API support.
-
Indoor and Outdoor Suitability: Cost-effectiveness for use in various environments with a single platform.
-
Future-Ready Design: Long-term durability and continuously expandable structure.
Unlike traditional robots, MobED offers unlimited application possibilities with a single platform.
MobED Models Available

-
MobED Pro: Developed specifically for commercial and outdoor operations, equipped with enhanced autonomy, LiDAR-camera fusion, and additional sensors like the ‘follow-me’ mode.
-
MobED Basic: The foundational model focused on research and development, open to customization without pre-integrated autonomy components.
These two options ensure responsiveness to the varying needs of different industries.
What Defines MobED’s Design?

MobED’s design embodies the ‘Refined Edge’ approach, reflecting the harmony of straight lines and fluid curves. While the straight lines represent functional robustness, the integrated sensors and Drive-and-Lift (DnL) modules create a balanced and refined aesthetic. High-quality metal surface finishing ensures seamless transitions between moving forms, highlighting design integrity during dynamic movements.
Engineering Innovations Making MobED a Robotic Breakthrough

At the core of MobED is the proprietary DnL structure, which combines the posture control, driving, and steering motors into a single module. The eccentric-based posture control mechanism dynamically adjusts the height and maintains balanced positioning by adapting to surface inclines.
The optimization-based control algorithm, inspired by multi-joint robotic systems, maintains stability while overcoming obstacles like curbs. LiDAR and camera sensors ensure safe navigation with functions such as moving object tracking, predictive path generation, and autonomous obstacle avoidance.
The large touchscreen controller and 3D interface simplify self-mapping, localization, and autonomous driving processes for everyone.
MobED at iREX 2025
Hyundai Motor Group is exhibiting MobED at its stand during iREX 2025 from December 3–6. Visitors can observe the platform’s maneuverability on different terrains and experience real-time applications in scenarios such as loading/unloading, delivery, golf, urban transport, and broadcasting.
Mass production of MobED is planned to begin in the first half of 2026. Product details and purchase information are available on the Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB website.
